Thanks for your thoughts. Our belief is that if someone has value to provide they can find a way to make a living from it, regardless of age. Yes, it may be difficult to start a new career as an employee in your 60s due to the reasons you've brought up. However, as outsourcing becomes more prevalent, age discrimination will become less of a factor. Also, by the point of traditional retirement one may not need to work full-time and may prefer the flexibility that part-time employment has to offer. For instance, instead of completely disengaging from his business, an entrepreneur may want to stay involved part-time until sometime in their 70s or beyond as they still have immense value to provide and it makes for a less abrupt transition for themselves and their business.

The big problem with this philosophy is employers don't hire anyone over the age of 50 and older workers are the first ones to get kicked out the door in a down economy. Then the only work available is part time, temporary, and no benefits.

Love how you've coined it overwhelm-time!

I lie down as well, Jillian. I sometimes wonder if it would be better to sit up, but then sometimes it results in a little nap, so...bonus! Does this happen to you?

Can't wait to hear about the changes once you've completed the challenge!

P.S. Thanks for the welcome home - looking forward to being home soon!

PS - I just noticed the author of the 'creative pause' post is Cameron Moll. He's the CEO of Authentic Jobs, which is a job board I use at UrtheCast and he's a super decent guy. Small world.

Love this post Shannon. And the 'creative pause' post too!

And lately I take 30 mins each day when I get home for downtime. I lay in my bed in silence, usually staring at the wall. Then I come back and can crank out a few hours of productivity whether it be a run, work or catching up with friends. I don't call it downtime though.... I call it overwhelm-time. :)

I'm taking your challenge to incorporate 30 mins a day for a week and see what happens. My thoughts are I'll be more at peace, but who knows. Report forthcoming.

PS - Welcome home!

Agreed Izzy. Constant crisis isn't required for success. Of course, it will happen from time to time, but not something to aspire to!

I agree. Angela Kim seems charming but the overall video sends a sad message to mompreneurs out there. I don't think your life has to be in a constant state of crisis and drama to live up to measures of success.

Funny... The answers to questions 1-3 were "it was the best we could get." Question 4 is "because its fun and I'm good at it."

Now to make question 4 successful enough to solve the issues with questions 1-3!

Thank you so much for sharing this story Cheryl. You really get to the core of it. None of us know how long we have, so postponing our future until retirement is high risk. All we know is that we have today. Thanks for the reminder.
